Name: Kalak will do.
Age:
Contact: PM
Age: Roughly 5,000
Nick Names and Titles:
Type:Custom
Race:Demon
Occupation: Freelance Court Sorcerer
Company: None currently
Location: Travels a lot, but gravitates toward political centers.
Appearance:
Normally, Kalak maintains the appearance of a tall, thin old man. A long, tangled mane of white hair flows down his back, and he has a hawk-like, clean-shaven face. While his tan skin is wrinkled and weathered from his age, his bearing seems to suggest that he is younger. He always stands straight, and is just a shade over six feet tall. Purple robes are draped over his frail-looking body, but he never seems to show any of the frailty that would normally come with his age.
Personality:
Kalak always tries to be who he thinks people want him to be. Devious and manipulative, Kalak has become very good at hiding his true nature. He feigns loyalty, and plays the role of the wise old sage, but soon shows his true face if things go against his plans. Kalak can be extremely paranoid and will sometimes lash out violently if he suspects that someone plans to betray him.
In the end, Kalak's sadistic and manipulative behavior stem from the same thing that has driven his entire existence; cowardice. Fear has controlled Kalak his entire life, and it is that same fear that makes him a monster. All his ambition his cruelty, it's all from a desperate fear of death.
Background:
Born in the Sumerian city of Ur, Kalak grew up in the lower tiers of the court. He was raised to be a scribe and bookkeeper for those in power, and seemed to be perpetually stuck in a position of powerlessness. He spent his life dodging political squabbles until, in his early forties, he was given an important assignment. Kalak's master had been given an ancient scroll by a visiting noble, and Kalak was ordered to translate it. He succeeded, and what he discovered shattered his mind. The scroll belonged to a pre-human civilization, ruled by monstrous gods called the Great Old Ones, who were on a temporary leave of absence from Earth.
Kalak was terrified by this revelation, and used spells dictated by the scroll to contact the Great Old Ones and make a deal with them. He promised to hand the world back to them, and in return they would spare his life and grant him power. Bored, and somewhat amused at the idea that a human thought he could help, the Elder Gods agreed and gave him magical abilities and the body of a Shoggoth, the monstrous workers of their ancient empire.
With his newfound powers, Kalak rampaged for quite some time until a cabal of Egyptian sorcerers managed to subdue him and seal him in a tomb. The scrolls that had revealed the Great Old Ones to him, called the Pnakotic Manuscripts, were sealed in the tomb with him, but over the years graverobbers stole all but one; the Book of the Messenger, which was in the sarcophagus with him. It was only recently that some were foolish enough to open the casket, breaking the seal and releasing a very angry Kalak back into the world. He has spent the years since then tracking down the scrolls, and has followed the trail to Japan, where he is certain the remaining scrolls are hidden.
Abilities:
Telekinesis: Can levitate, move objects with his mind or launch concussive blasts.
Lovecraftian Superpower: Kalak has the body of a Shoggoth, which is an amorphous monster capable of changing its shape, density and even its mass at will. He can simply use this to assume any appearance he wants, but its physics-defying abilities also make a very effective weapon. Because of the Shoggoth's amorphous nature, physical force is useless. Only energy (i.e. fire, lightning, magic, etc) has any effect on him.
I'm a Humanitarian: Can consume people, absorbing them into the Shoggoth body and temporarily increasing his shifting ability.
Weapons:
Pnakotic Manuscripts Volume I: Book of the Messenger
The scroll that first revealed the Great Old Ones to Kalak. The original language of the manuscript is so alien and horrific that, if he reads it aloud, anyone who hears will go insane. Those who are unused to the supernatural will often become catatonic or suicidal, but players will have to RP the effects of this revelation.
Role Play Sample:
It seemed to be an unusually small convoy for a daimyo to have. Just the lord himself, his most trusted bodyguard, five soldiers...
And an old man sitting atop a floating pile of luggage.
On second thought, that was unusual too. Kalak was levitating the luggage along the road, rather annoyed that someone of his power and status had been ordered to do this, when he noticed that something seemed wrong. As usual, farmers by the side of the road had stopped to bow to the daimyo, but why did it seem like they were in some sort of formation?
Kalak looked more carefully, and there definitely seemed to be a pattern to it. One by every soldier, two at the front... Why were there eggs in their hands? Why would someone be holding an egg while working in the field?
"It's a trap!" Kalak shouted, and the luggage fell to the ground as he turned his attention elsewhere. The farmers crushed the eggs in their hands, and threw the glass powder hidden inside in the eyes of the guards. Then, taking up their farming tools as weapons, the trained assassins set to work. The ones surrounding them made quick work of the blinded soldiers, while one in front threw a pair of shuriken at the daimyo's throat. Kalak held up his hand, and the shuriken stopped in midair, then flew back the way they had came, striking the assassin in the eyes.
The second frontman picked up a sickle and charged. Kalak made a punching motion in the air, and an invisible force slammed into the man, throwing him backwards and crushing his ribs. The other five were moving in, improvised weapons at the ready, but Kalak gestured and the weapons flew out of their hands and, in one fluid movement, slit the throats of their former wielders.
"It seems we will need to have a very serious talk with Hirano-Sama when we arrive." Kalak said, levitating the luggage again.
